Hi there. I did this over 10 years ago. and I've passed MOT's every time. I got red liquid lens repair stuff from a company called ( eastwoodco.com ) item 52239.Mixed it up and cast it into the inside of my offside lens. All 5 faces. It adds thickness and dulls the output from the bulb but what I did was to solder two leads to another bulb, and wire it into the circuit,( a couple of small holes through the back of the reflector close to the bulb holder and, easily sealed up.) the extra bulb was bedded in modeling clay inside the reflector itself. I think I've had to change it twice so far.Of course you need an extra wire from the switch running the length of the car, and to disconnect the feed from left to right running across the rear of the car. Check the earth wires, but it can be done. 99.9% of the time they're tested in daylight and by mark-one-eyeball and no-one has ever remarked on the intensity or lack of it on my car.Anyway you shouldn't be out in fog!!

basically, no, it's not road legal.... and all vendors which sell the conversion have a disclaimer in the literature...

Its not the intensity of the bulb thats the real issue, its the distance from the stop light. In this situation it is directly below the stop light and definately not 100mm distance from center of bulbs. It SHOULD fail and MOT, but how many testers actualy know the book cover to cover. Then again some things are not assesed in the MOT but are still ilegal, so in this situation maybe as long as all the lights work it will pass an MOT. For example, I have 100wat main beam bulbs, yet it still passed an MOT.
