My original fibreboard vinyl covered heat sealed dash liners are looking a bit manky after 30 years. And were the windscreen has leaked/inside of car has been damp in previous years, the cardboard inside has lost its shape and disintegrated.
Now I could buy some generic pre made non-standard dash liners for £20, with some fancy stitching. But those too are nothing more than some cardboard with vinyl stuck to them. Even the newton commercial ones are just cardboard and vinyl, but are cut to the shape of the factory originals so fit better are £45.
So my play was to use my original dash liners as a template, use them to make new ones and cover them in standard black vinyl.
But I’m not entirely sure what backing to use, as it needs to be around 3mm thick, flexible, easy to cut, moisture/damp proof and not too expensive.
