At the risk of making myself look utterly stupid...How do I get these to stay in place, I assumed they would have been a snug enough fit to just pop on, should I just slap some glue on it?

Hi Ollie,
Just run a bead of superglue around the inner face of the chrome trim and press firmly home over the vent.
