In this topic I will show the restoration project of my 1997 Mini Sportspack Classic edition.

I bought it in 2013 with a lot of rust, but I was planned to keep it on the road while repairing the rust damage and solving the technical issues.

However when I started to disassemble some parts I found so much rust damage that it seemed better to take it off the road and refurbish the whole Mini. :ohno:

Some pics of the rust damage and repairs:

Amazing work! Although not as rusty as some as we've seen on here, you've gone about it all the right way!

Very nice.

What are the plans for the finished car?

I think it will take some years from now on untill it is completely finished.

But when the bodywork is all done, maybe some tuning or personalizing of the Mini.

But first when it is on the road again, enjoying it with my familie.  :proud:

I also have some pics of the refurbishment of the burr walnut dashboard.

Like most of the MPI's (and other Mini's) it was affected by moisture.

It was quite a job to get the paint of, but it worked with a sharp Stanley knife and a chisel.

I refurbished two dashboards and kept the best one for my Mini (the one in the front).

The bur walnut door cappings were also affected by moisture, so I refurbished them too.

That's true, the MPI's aren't the best Mini's although I have seen worse than mine.  :proud:

How on earth did you refurbish the dashboard yourself..??

I removed all the clearcoat with a sharp knife and a little chisel and then I repaired the veneer with liquid wood and coloured it up with pickle.

Then I smoothened up the surface with sanding paper.

Sprayed everything with a few layers of 2K clearcoat and wetsanded and polished it.

The same I did with the door cappings which where also affected by moisture.

And I am very pleased with the results. :proud:

Last saturday I welded the new rear valance and the scuttle in.

Then I grinded the wells and put epoxy on the bare matal.

Fortunately there is some progres again in the restoration. :proud:

After a period in which I did not work on the Mini, I resumed the restoration last month. Now it is time to fit everything before the final welding on the front. It starts looking like a Mini again.
