From memory, the standard MG Metro air box was quiet and efficient (Vizard). This looked like the standard air box but had a longer snorkel tube feeding cool air in from the front of the engine bay. You can also fit K&N filter elements into these standard boxes for more air flow.

Cheers, Steve.

Being a new mini owner, while I do enjoy induction sound, I found the noise overpowering. The cone filter is extremely noisy to the point nothing else can be heard ( including my wife yelling for me to slow down ) so I fitted a bulkhead box, changed filter style and wrapped the exhaust and put in some light soundproofing. much more pleasurable now, can hear every tick in the motor and nice exhaust. and yes that is a baking pan, there until I need to do something major.

Im guessing that's bolted in because it can't be easy to weld a 'non-stick' baking tray? :-P
