I am looking to swap out my current engine for a newly rebuilt one.

My question is regarding the engine number. Do all engines have their own individual number?

Reason I ask is that I need to know the origin of the engine for emission testing.

Thanks

Yeah they should do but rebuilt engines don't have any specific rules. They have engine numbers from the factory on a plate near the right hand side of the top of the block. This is some times lost when the block face is machines for example.

Craig,

What info are you exactly needing as for emissions the number will only refer to the complete powertrain as sold. This will/can have very little to the engine when in your car.

Eg an engine from the metro when installed in a mini will not give the same readings. As there are some Mini bits that you would use that are not the same as the metro.

I have people in Sweden who I can ask as they have done so mad engine work on some cars.

And as you know you do need to give the correct info and not just what you think they need.
