Hi there, I have recently had problems with a leaking roof and I have come to the conclusion it must be one of two faults (or both). I have decided to replace the windscreen seal, but also need to replace the sun roof seal, however I have been unable to find any replacements online. The sunroof is a manual tilt roof, but i haven't seen any markings on it in terms of brand and so I am not quite sure what to order as a replacement. Any ideas and/or links would be much appreciated.

Cheers

George

I'll try a bit of gasket sealant round the lining then i think.

Try pumping silicon sealant UNDER the flexible lip to lift it up to press harder against the glass. Ideally in a heated garage after the roof has been open for a few days. Let the silicon cure before closing the roof. Its often a good temporary repair and can be peeled off when you find the correct section seal. For that look on interior trim suppliers sites, most sunroof companies will have used an existing seal and not manufactured their own

Give Bristol Sunroofs a call, or drop them an email with the exact outer frame dimensions (length & width) of your sunroof. When I spoke to them a couple of days ago, they explained that there were so many different brands/models of sunroof used, that they tend to have to supply seals based on the units actual dimensions any way.

i think ill try the sealant - just nursing the car through to summer, when she'll be stripped naked and given all the welding she needs :P

Have you checked that any drain pipes are whole, attached, and unblocked? Often a problem with sunroofs.

No I haven't had it off yet, although was replacing the windscreen today and the scuttle panel is very rusty on the passenger side (holes in places) and so the sunroof housing could be just as bad...

I've yet to see a Classic Mini Sunroof with drain tubes, most were simple "cut through the roof panel" types.

Some of the Unipart / Dealer / Cooper Garages units fitted to Mini's are similar to those fitted to Land-Rovers, so maybe try Rimmer Bros or other Land-Rover parts suppliers.

Phil.

Para cord stuffed under the seal to bulk it out is meant to work also tightening the mechanism too not sure how it's done but it won't be that complex

I was planning on cramming in some sealant and making the locking bead as long as possible to apply as much pressure as it can - only has to last around 6 months as that's when I'm taking the car completely apart and rewelding any rusty bits ---> rust free dream.
