What do you think of it? I'm thinking maybe a 1.4 TFSI either the 120 or the 150, probably five door and I really like the s line seats and sports package which thankfully looks available on the 120 rather than just the 150 upwards.

Anyone got any thoughts on them,ta

Dad had the 1.4 tfsi 120 which was super nippy but now has the 1.6tdi, not as quick but still pulls well. Real good handling in both too. I'd go 3 door as there's about the same room as in the back of a mini, so pretty pointless having any back there haha

I hired a diesel for a week it felt gutless. I guess the petrol engines will be much better.

Thanks folks, diesel is out as I already have one awaiting the vw recall! Plus my wife does short trips mainly other than her mom lives 80 odd miles away so egr and dpf filters will be a disaster.

3 door only looks to have 4 seats rather than 5 in the 5 door which isnt a deal breaker but handy now and again for short runs with three in the back.

Boot size is a tricky one, I currently use the Bini clubman for gigs (I play in a band) and I can fit my double bass in it, we are not up for the new Clubman as it's too big really so any contender is probably going to count me out for double bass use anyway, we do have two cavalier spaniels though.

The new 1.5 Cooper is quicker and more powerful than the 1.4 tfsi, the boot looks bigger but the 5 door looks ugly imo.

We couldn't even fit our kids buggy in it and adults in the back is very very tight.
Go for a Toyota.

I do like Japanese cars but we don't have children so it can be a bit more fancy, nice spec A1,Bini Cooper hatch with chili pack, Vw golf maybe and I really like the fiat 500 sport but they are even smaller still and no good for the motorway runs.

Most of the A1s are mapped to 104ish like my van I think, a re mapped diesel A1 would be quite good I bet.
