Fitted a new clutch after having relentless problems last year. Car goes up gears fine, just makes a whining noise from 4th - 3rd and won't go 3rd to second. Never had an issue with the gearbox

Any ideas?

It's had new master, slave, hoses and pressure bled

Do you get a crunch/thunk when selecting reverse ?

nope

 

going up and down the gears with engine off is fine (incl. reverse)

 

going up the gears engine on is fine

 

selecting reverse when at a complete stop (idle) and sometimes just having to press the clutch twice

 

going 4th - 3rd slight screech, 3rd to 2nd no, 2nd to 1st not tried, assume ok

Hydraulics

everything on the hydraulics is brand new, pipe (flexi and copper) slave and master

 

could you be a bit more specific about hydraulics?

If you pump the pedal and it improves, then there's only one thing it can be, that's either air in the system or fluid is coming past the seals.

So assuming the gearbox Is ok? I know you haven't driven it and can only go on my vague description
