Cheeky post really, I am doing my sills soon, and as their brand new, oridgal sills, I in the understanding, I can spotweld these :D

I was wondering, as my mig welding isn't the smoooooothest.... :o can anyone lend me a spot welder?

I don't need it yet... in a couple of weeks I will thou... Don't mind paying for the use either :w00t:

drill holes in the sill and weld thru the holes. This is known as plug welding andwould have the same effect as spot welding.

yes allowed to spot weld original panels on just bare in mind how many spot welds are on the panel you are replacing and try to replicate as best as possible

My dad is a pro welder and reckons that plug welding in some cases is stronger than spot welds .When replacing my seals though he stitch welded it however . :D

Basically i think from what my dad tells me it is were the two panels join a "stitch" line is welded in different parts with gaps in between the welds along the panel joins. Its difficult to explain but the panel sort of look a bit like this:-

- - - - -

The gaps between the dashes being the gaps in the panels. Obviously to make the rust proof you can use seam sealer to fill these gaps.

Yer lol

Most probably craply done as lots of people cheat by only doing one side of the panel were for the most effective way you should if possible do a zig zag pattern if you see what I mean :D

so it would look something like this either side of the panel

- - - - - - weld
------------ panel
- - - - - -weld

Also this method is meant to be stronger than spot etc . My dad sometimes uses this method when welding plates etc to major rsj's and in 18 years has never ever had a complaint.

Wouldn’t bother with a spot welder, would be easer to drill a hole and weld thru.

Its got to be done...
I've asked for a magic pixie to come and do it, but no one turned up :D

So I've knuckled down, and I just to get it done! I'd prefure to spot weld the sills, as its just going to look a whole lot neater!

Ain't that seam-welding?

The same was done to our Mk3 Fiesta shell at college before we welded in the rollcage.
