Hi guys, so the time has come this weekend to ship my mini off for paint. I have a trailer organised, but one thing I'm a little worried about is actually getting the car onto it. currently the car is a bare shell up on axle stands and has no front subframe fitted, but the rear one still is. So, I know that I can simply put wheels on the rear of the car, and I do have a trolly to put under the floor pan to move it around, but I dont think that will actually help me get it on the trailer.

Anyone else been through this before? What did you do? do i simply lift the car at the front and pull in onto the trailer? Where are the safe points that I can lift from without causing damage?

If the wheels are on the back you can put it on backwards and push it up the ramps with a bit of help.

Then put a couple of blocks under the front of the body and strap it down. It is surprising how light the front is with no frame or engine fitted. Lift it at each side of the front panel and under the wheel arches. It won't bend so long as you are careful. I reckon maybe 3 people to do this, although I've done it with just two in the past, one each side of the front panel.

I would lose the rear frame as well and get some mates around and just put it on the trailer.

This is my car returning from paint a few months ago.  I built a trolley using 2X4 lumber and casters.  I used a come-along to haul it up my trailer ramp, whilst my wife and neighbor guided the load from either side.  The trolley also facilitated movement of the car whilst at the paint shop.  I still have the car on the trolley to facilitate reassembly and needed movement in my shop.

I've picked up mine with one other chap as well.  The paint shop staff probably won't be happy with that approach however.
