I bought a set of nearly new 12" revolutions that have an et of -7 they are fitted with 165 tyres

Will std 12" wheels fit under the arches with these tyres if I run it archless if you know what I mean

If not what would the best combo be to run archless

How wide are the rims? 6" or 7" (assumed from tyre width)

No, a 7" wide wheel is far to wide to run without arch extensions whatever the datum offset. The maximum without arch extensions is really 4.5", although I have run 5" with no problems with 165 section tyre width.

Really a 7" wide wheel is too wide for a 165 section tyre and gives no benefit over a 5" wide wheel. In fact the 5" will give better performance on the road.

By the way, all Minis have wheel arches. It's wheel arch extensions which are optional.

12x7 is a peculiar size.  Sure they arent 12x6?  The width is measured between the tyre beads, not the overall width.

Probably 6" then it was 7" overall

What I'm trying to say is what would be a std 12" steel wheel width be and could I fit the 165 tyres to them without running extensions

The standard width of the 12" rims was 4.5" and they will take 165 tyres and don't require arch extensions. The alloys of the same period are also 4.5" and here is a photo of a 1997 Cooper without arch extensions and with the 4.5" standard alloys and 165 tyres. You will just get away with 5" rims so long as they are standard datum offset, but really 4.5" is the maximum width to be strictly legal.
