Hello

I have a bit of a problem with my 85 mayfair. Whenever I indicate it takes a good 3-5 seconds before the lights start flashing. I'm not sure if that's related to my cutting out problem (the plan with my resto was to get it on the road as fast as possible and then carry on fixing everything as I'm enjoying it) where it wasn't pulling the right voltage and I ended up changing the alternator and battery (although I haven't had the chance to test it yet).

Anyway, I was hoping to find out what could be causing the delay, and also what would normally cause other electrical problems that would be easy enough to keep an eye out for.

Thank you

I would start by changing the flasher unit, cheap enough.

Don't really understand the second part of your question? Quite honestly could be anything. Fuse boxes and earths are responsible for most Mini electrical gremlins if that's what you are asking?

I'd start looking at rusty connections on the front indicator lamps

A can of electrical contact cleaner, some fine emery and a couple of hours should sort it. These sorts of gremlins can be a beggar to trace, you just need to be patient.

As above really if you have dirty corroded connections then the current draw could be a little low to kick the flasher bi-metallic strip into action, or it could just be a tired flasher unit, I'd change the unit if you have one first.
