Hi All

Not a Mini owner, but I lurk here from time to time... for all the good tech info! And have an AC cam in my rebuilt engine.

Long shot, but hope someone might know a direction to point me in please?

I finally got my rebuilt 1275 into my Westfield, but, sadly, the #2 bore is playing up! Compression check shows this, and wet check brings the cylinder back to spec. There is blow by as the crank case is being pressurised and oil is going into the catch tank like crazy.

The engine has 100 miles on it, with running in mineral oil. I did run in the cam as per, but wonder if I glazed the bores doing so. I don't have access to a ramp to take the head/sump off and remove the piston. Can anyone recommend any A Series people down near Swindon, please? Somerford Mini send all their engine stuff to Bornemouth, so couldn't help.

Perhaps it's possible to hone in situ? I'm in temporary digs at the moment, so can't really haul the engine out and strip it again.

Ideally, somewhere local that knows these engines and can sort the problem without huge expense!!

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

Jon

Yep, well, new rings and fresh bores. I can't recall the detail, but it may have been re-sleeved to standard. I'll try to dig out the paperwork next time I've access to it.

To be honest, I can't answer the last two questions as the machinist kindly built me a slightly more than a short engine. Engine was lightened, balanced, head worked etc and I doubt he'd make a mistake. I probably did when I tried to start it, but I guess the head will have to come off to check for sure...

sounds like the top ring is incorrectly fitted or damaged, however this is more a "hunch" than factual..
