Well I've been taking my sweet time replacing the rear subframe on my Mini as I've found it a bit of a job but I am getting there. Its taken so long (I've been a little lazy) that I've started to miss driving the darn thing so I've pulled my finger out and got a move on. Nearly there..

Replacing my rear subframe

When I've finished I should be an expert at changing them with all the hassle I've had. I've had to deal with sheared bolts, slightly out welding, I've stripped the threads from a trunnion pin just to get some extra play (later discovering how useful G-clamps are), kinked a copper pipe and removed a few layers of skin from my knuckles.

Just out of curiosity, how fast have you all changed a rear subframe in the past? And did you have as much fun as me?

Took me ages to to mine on my estate! But i was buying new bits and painting lots of bits as well. Brakes took the longest. Poly-bushes made it harder! :D

With all the bits and some pretty good luck a mate and I did it on my Clubby in 5 hours, from driving to driving, including bleeding the brakes. But I was lucky!

If you're replacing a subframe ( front or back ) it's well worth getting one built and ready to go in before you start removing the old one... Save shoot loads of time and als means you're not p'ing around with brakes, or suspension.... it's swapping bits over which takes the time, not removing them

I bought my rear subframe from a local company in Ipswich. There are 2 companies here called Flinco and Phoenix Minis which do rear subframes for about 125ukp. They are not genuine and tend to need some persuasion to go in. I'm replacing everything except the radius arms and hub units. I've bought copper pipes and unions, braided hoses, Adjusta-rides and KYB dampers.

Just out of interest has anyone fitted Adjusta-rides? I am assuming you dont need the clear plastic caps that come attached to the trumpet end.
