Some of you may remember me but there is a reason why I haven't been on for a while (see below) Dont worry everyone was ok and George will be back. :)

Anyway I am wanting to get the number plate replicated as it was the one from the Garage back in 1989. Does anyone know anywhere that can replicate it or can anyone do it at home?

Edit: Forgot to mention i want the garage name on the number plate not just a new number plate.

Anywhere that makes new plates: you will need the V5 ...

The only issue may be  that by law the name or postcode of the plate-maker needs to be on them now.

Try: http://www.myshowplates.com They will make up the plate(s) to your requirements. If stopped, I don't think anyone will realise that the plate is anything other than the original.

Not if you get them made up as 'show' plates.... been driving around with number plates that haven't got the postcode/plate make on for years now, and they have 'illegal' slogans along the bottom.

Give this a try.... http://www.myshowplates.com/index.asp

Or failing that give martin at sticky fingers a shout for some replica dealer number plate stickers to go along the bottom of your new standard plates.

These plates have bigger letters, its not as simple as you'd think. Technically by law you can use them until they are broken etc but only the original ones, I doubt anyone would know or care plus the big digits look great imo!

MOT stations now have to measure letters, gaps, etc ... it could be a fail ...

It's easy to find out what the proper height is .. and probably get customplates or fancyplates to use the correct size ...

The plate is not illegal, it is simply in the old size font which is perfectly fine on pre 2001 registered cars.

wrong. it is only fine for the original plate. any new plate must comply with the current rules irrespective of the car age.

IE a brand new plate made to the old style is not legal.

link above page 9

For vehicles with new or replacement number plates fitted from 1 September 2001,
