yo,

right as a few of you know my mini El Gordo (austin mini HL 1982) been a leaking. now i know it leak but i did quite know how much till i went for a drive. hit some heavy rain.....and my arm got rainied on....which was a new and intresting thing. what the rain dose it stick between the top of the door and the seal and drips thro. the seal (althouth old) is still plump and spongey. so i was wondering if i could get bigger rubbers that will make a better seal or should i bend the top of the door in a smidgen?

ta very much.

there are only two sizes of seal for the mini. The MkI and the MKIII. MKI is a small diameter, the MKIII is larger.

Are you sure your doors are aligned correctly?

the window frame of the door should have an equal gap all the way round. when viewd from the side the frame should also have the same distance brom the body line all the way round. The waist line of the body should follow neatly through onto the door. The bottom corner of the door should be as close to flush with the body. The door should be flush with the A panel up to about two or three inches from the waist line, where the door then cures in a little more than the A panel. The gaps of the door panel to body should be as close to equall all the way round.

a lot of this will depend on if the door has been reskinned and how well it was reskinned.

There are four nuts on the inside of the front wing that hold the door on, there is slight adjustment in the holes. shimms are used to align the door gaps. some times brute force is required to align the door but do not bend the windo frame, the window will not operate correctly.
Oh and worn hinges dont help either. If you lift the door when its open and there is a lot of movement at the hinge, then they are worn.

I have the same problem on the passenger side of my mini, i believe that Citroen AX seals are thinker and will fit the mini door, so you could try substitiuting them, even if it is only part way round to close the gap between the door frame and the car.
