Evening all.

A couple of days ago, i drove past an open wheeled VW beetle (in that it had no arches) and it got me thinking.

I've seen a fair few open wheeled hot rods and rat rods driving around, but i understand you're supposed to have the upwards facing tyre treads covered?
How do these people not get pulled or have i missed a loop hole?

Cheers all
Rob

I overtook a Mitsubishi L200 the other day with a lift kit and his wheels were sticking out a lot. There was a cop car a few cars behind me and thought the cop would have pulled him as it was silly, but nope. I would have probably got pulled if I was in the mini with the tiny bit of tyre I have poking

Guess it depends on how bothered any cops can be. Friend with his mini had his sticking out just slightly and was done for it, think he got off by saying he had to borrow some wheels and they didnt fit his as well they should have done.

As you say, some people seem to get away with a hell of a lot. And others dont.

a fried of mine used to own this Volksrod , from what she could find is it's illegal to drive around with spray coming off the wheels , so if you drive around only in the dry it's fine

having said that she sold the car fairly soon because she couldn't find a garage in west cornwall that would MOT it

From my understanding from what I read years ago. As bungle said you can run around without arches on but when the weather turns bad, you have to have some more of clip on/magnetic etc arch to stick on to stop spray etc. I don't know if this is writing anywhere eg: DVLA or vosa so don't know if there any truth in it

Bungle that looks very much like the one i've seen between Chacewater and Redruth.

I didnt realise it was a spray issue i thought it was a 'safety' thing?
