If you pump the pedal 3 times quickly and then try to engage, is it any easier?

If it doesn't do it with then engine stopped it's likely to be the clutch not fully disengaging.

where does the pedal bite? Is it slack for the first inch or so? If someone looks at the arm, does it move immediately you depress the pedal? If someone levers the clutch arm out further as you have fully depressed the pedal, does it go in OK?

Fair enough, just to point out reverse is normally the one gear to demonstrate a problem with a "dragging' clutch

You are welcome by the way :o(

Thanks for the replies everyone including you ChopperHarris  ;D  not sorted it yet so that's why I've been short with responses, a friend has suggested possible reverse gear bearing might have collapsed, causing play ?

From the descriptions so far, it doesn't sound like Clutch or Primary Gear related. It could be one of a number of items, all internal to the Gearbox, ie, collapsed Mainshaft Nose Bearing, a split baulk ring (rare), damaged Reverse Gear bush, worn Mainshaft bearing or even a badly machined casing (and that's much more common than you may realise!).

So, either way, I'm pretty sure the Gearbox need to come off and apart.

^^^^Mokes  the man.

However, did you replace all the parts you listed particularly because of this problem, or has it occurred since?

Hi Chopper, I replaced the parts to eradicate the fault not wanting to remove the gear box, as per Moke my friend suggested the reverse gear bush might of collapsed.

So engine out again and box off.

Thanks for all the replies gents hopefully see what's going off inside ?

Oh bugger, I wish you luck.
I don't fear anything automotive....except the black art of gearboxes!
