Hello All,

 

I am a complete novice when it comes to restoration and this is my first car, so i know there is a lot to learn. My question is, would it be better to completely strip the paint of the car, then start chopping and welding or leave the paint on and strip it once the chopping has been done?

 

I am worried that stripping the paint off first might cause surface rust, but then if i dont strip it i might not get all the rust sorted

Hi theres some good projects here look at a few i certain you will gain some invaluable knowledge

If i was you only remove paint where you are going to weld. Then once all of the work is complete strip the remainder off. BUT and its a big BUT you need to thoroughly check the whole car for any signs of bubbling etc. If you decide to strip the paint off then use a decent quality Epoxy primer as this is water resistant and will help to keep surface rust away.

Thanks for the advice guy's, think i will just strip the bits am going to weld then go for the full monty
