Hi guys,
My mini is currently not charging my battery and I have a feeling it's the generator. So, I have a 70A alternator and the bracket from minisport that I'd like to install.
I do have a few questions. Firstly is there a guide or thread on here that I could use, I know of the mini mania page describing it but I was wondering if there was anything more detailed.
Secondly, what happens to the ignition coil, as it is currently mounted right on the generator? Where do I move it to?
Lastly, can I reuse the belt that currently drives the generator?
Thanks

This is what MW magazine fitted to retain the original look of a Dynamo but with power of a modern Alternator:-

"Powerlite Dynalite provides the benefits of a modern alternator, whilst retaining the original appearance of a dynamo/generator. All Lucas type Dynalites are identical in fitting to original units, requiring no fitting kits, brackets or other modifications to the vehicle."

For coil mounting bracket this is type to use with alternator, it fits under one of the head studs: http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Electrics/Ignition/Coils/12G2994SS.aspx  Original coil  brackets were painted steel.

With the fan belt you should be able to use the one you already have fitted, pulley on alternator is likely to be slightly smaller than one on dynamo but not enough to make much difference. Fan belt likely to be marked 813 or 825 length but this also depends on the size of water pump pulley.

When fitting large output alternator to non-ballast coil with points, be aware that the higher voltage at lower engine speeds can give rise to coil overheating in traffic.
