Hi doing a automatic protect I have had it running before but after putting a new alternator new fan belt and reffiting it all back together now it won't start because the engine won't spin over enough first thing I checked was how much power in battery and I have over 12 volts? So why is it not spinning the engine over quickly? Thanks Tom

Also I have drained the old oil and put in some 20/50w just to run it to temperature then I will drain and put new 10/40 in then. Seems funny why there is not a lot of power going to the alternator. Cheers Tom

Just been reading it might be the earth strap? Ile
Check and change both of them. I'm hoping this is the issue.

Tom, as Stu and Limby say, take it easy. It is a well known fact that Mini Matics that wern't used for a longer time have problems to wake up. Renew the oil and filter. Use 10W40, because it is an '85.

I agree, my mate also uses 20/50 on a 1993 1275 auto!

Have you tried building oil pressure on the starter? You can use another vehicle to boost the battery if necessary!

Also you do have the starter inhibitor switch wiring connected???
