Want yellow silicone leads, but decent ones only seem to come in 7mm. Is there any really difference between 7 and 8mm

well done, you can subtract :-)

OK I'll rephrase the question in order to filter out any comedians. Is there a loss of power using a 7mm HT lead compered to an 8mm HT lead. Am I likely to notice any difference?

Good morning,
As Gaham says 1mm difference of insulation, don't think you'll notice any difference.

The diameter of the wire jacket doesn't make a bit of difference except of course that it must fit the distributor cap you are using.  Focus on the construction of the wire's core.  Check online reviews of what you plan to buy.  Keep in mind that people are more likely to complain than praise so reviews are often slanted slightly negative.

the 8mm and thicker stuff is really aimed at cars where the leads are running near exhaust manifolds and turbo's.

8mm would seal moisture out a tiny little bit better though.
