New Donut Replacment

Best Answer Spider , 13 February 2016 - 05:51 PM

It's normal and it's not from the suspension sitting lower on one side.

The Drivers Side (or RH Side) Drive Shaft is longer then the LH Side and is 'pivoted' about on the Pot Joint on the Inboard end. Since on the RH Side, it sits in further in, it comes down further along the shaft's midpoint.

Sorry that the crappy verbal description, but if you do a simple sketch, you'll see what it is I'm banging on about.

Hi guys, new post so hello to all and hope you are well.

I am in the process of replacing all my donuts/dampers/brakes/bushes etc etc however i am a little stumped here.

A picture below shows the passenger side completed (please take note of the gap from the half shaft to the bottom arm bracket):

Now i am nearly finished on the drivers side but i dont understand why the half shaft is resting on the swing arm with no gap:

I know the car is in the air and once on the floor this should not be an issue but i cant under stand why this is diffrent?

I have also been taking measurements to from the passenger side with drivers side and every thing is true?

Have you guys had this issue when replace with new cones?

Regards

What condition are the rebound rubbers on the top arm platforms?

If the rebound rubber is missing on the drivers side this could account for difference.

Hi Carbon, the rebound rubbers (the ones hold on by a single screw) are in good con both sides, both side have around 40% compression as well so that can't be the issue with this one, sorry the picture does not show this.

Hi Daves, so you have seen this issue too then?

I have run a tape measure from the top strut of the chassis down to the centre of hub and both read the same measurements as well.

If you have seen this issue with the drivers half shaft I take it I have nothing to worrie about?

Just leave it or take off too look?
