If you have wondered about a long trip in a Classic Mini take a look at our 70-day trek around Australia.  Yes, it was 2011, but even then our Minis were nearly 40 years old.

In fall 2013, we returned to Australia to address the - One Lap's Unfinished Business - and 4 old couples in 4 old Minis took a month and travelled from Queensland to Tasmania for Minifest in Hobart and return....some 25,000 miles all told in Australia.

Then I shipped the OZ Mini Window Van, I had purchased in spring 2010, to home in Canada.  It arrived mid-January 2014.  After some servicing and upgrades here, a neighbor & I co-drove the Window Van across Canada to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario...south to Ohio, on to Indianapolis and Milwaukee, Wisconsin then home across the USA...some 7,000 miles.

This year we will drive to San Diego, California for Mini Meet West...a short trip of 3,000 miles return.

PHOTOS - all from the Tasmania trip but the last - ROO with the Devil's Tower* in Wyoming.  Native American's have called it Bear Lodge* since time immemorial.

Nothing like a Road Trip!

I like to do them too, big mileage, weeks on end, usually one a year.

Got a big one coming up in a few weeks - 33 years in the making.

I did hear bits and pieces of your lap a few years back but never found anything to read up on. When are you coming back?

You know, while you probably found the place you guys went to be 'great', I'm sure you've missed the best bits!

Yes Moke Spider,

I would go back to Australia in a minute...I know we did not see & experience so much more.  However, I did get to Australia where my Dad's older brother settled and met some of his descendants...and I did get to see much of the country's regions.

And, after leaving OZ for New Zealand after our first trip, I met up with the friend I had talked about going to OZ with in the early 60's.  Tim did but later settled in NZ where I found him decades later near Helena Bay, North Island!

Have talked with my cousin & her husband in Brisbane about returning to drive the Gibb River road (in a proper 4x4) however as the years roll on not certain that will happen.

Rick
