Hi im currently in the middle of buying a Spi mini. I have been reading about tuning them on here such as stage one kit which is more throttle body and a filter change. the air filter im guessing should be pritty straight forward but what about the fitting of a burlen 52mm throttle body is this difficult and what has to be removed to change it. I will also put a new exhaust on is this more difficult than with the carb minis.
Also reading about the tuning of SPi mini's i have seen a few people on about cylinder heads. Is this a big job to go about changing. And who is blue mini because everyone seems to mention blue mini when cylinder heads come in lol
Thanks a lot for your help Lee

There is no larger throttle body available for the SPi, what you are talking about is the throttle for the MPi. Having said there is no larger throttle for the SPi, well thats not quite true. Minispeed and Wood and Picket both do a modified throttle body for the SPi but expect little change from £250. If you are man enough, you can try and modify one your self, but take it from me, its not the easiest of things to set up once done. I'll be very honest and say that its realy not worth it unless you are close to the limits of the system power capebilities.
After fitting a stage one kit, which, for the SPi would consist of LCB exhaust manifold ( has to be specific Injection item), silencer of choice, K&N filter of choice ( induction kit or replacement standard type), The cylinder head is the next best thing to change for performance improvement, but is one of the most expensive items you will buy for your mini.
Bluemini is/was a member of this forum who modifies cylinder heads for a marginal fee. Search for his profile under his user name.
All in all when you get your SPi Mini, make sure that the injection system is running tip top before anything else, this will give you far more pleasing driving.

Decent head from any of the known tuners start around £300
removing the head is a fairly easy task, time consuming but you will need to get hold of a haynes manual. It describes the procedure better in there. you will also need a torque wrench and new gaskets. As long as you follow what it says in the book you wont go far wrong, then theres the forum to ask questions as you go along if theres some thing you dont quite understand
