Hi there, I was driving home today in the dark with my full beam headlights on when suddenly they cut out. The dash lighting also went as did the side lights, however luckily, when I pulled the indicator switch towards me (to flash the main beam) the main beam lights still worked, so i drove the rest of the way holding this up. Earlier in the week the blue main beam indicator on the dash had stopped working but the main beams were still working. Now if I play with the light switch next to the heater control stick, I can sometimes get a brief interval where everything is on, but as soon as the switch completes its travel everything goes off again. This is a new switch as I previously had a similar problem, although I'm starting to think the switch may not have been the heart of the matter.

Kind Regards

George

sounds like something could be shorting out, check for bare wires, dodgy connections and loose fittings

If you can solve the problem by fiddling with the switch, its pretty much certain the problem is in that area. So...

Bad connection at plug to rear of switch.

Wire broken inside the insulation close to the plug.

Another duff switch (they are infamous for going wrong) You can dismantle them and play with the contacts but its hit and miss if you are not savvy with them.

To check the switch is at fault you can disconnect it and using a paper clip bridge the connections one by one to the live input (see wiring diagram) If sidelights and headlights work then its the switch.

I will try connecting the wires without the switch, as it is similar to what happened before.
