I bought these to cap off my brake connections when disconnected to stop any leaks and keep muck out but the threads are incorrect

Can someone tell me the size and thread needed?

I have a 1994 1275 Mayfair Auto.

Are the brake pipes metric?

Mike.

Some of the threads are M10 x 1.0 but most will be 3/8" UNF.

Those should fit most of the lines, except those on the Master Cylinder and the PDWA Valve.

<Edit: Sometimes if the lines have been done up by a ham fisted monkey, the ends of the tube nuts will flare out to a diameter bigger than the thread. >

I cant help you with the details you want but just for info I make my own blanks by putting a flare on a small length of pipe, installing a union and then crimping the open end closed.

I discovered 3/8" 24 tpi blanking plugs were correct.

The female blanking plug fitted the male end of the offside rear flexible connector perfectly.

The thread on the off side rear brake pipe female union was damaged, not sure how as I only unscrewed it and I believe that I am the first person to dismantle the joint since the car was built.

I would if possible like to reuse the rear brake pipe as the pipe itself and male end that fits in to the brake cylinder are still in good condition.

A number of options:

Cut the flare off the end replace the female fitting then remake the flare. Would this make the brake pipe too short to fit between brake cylinder and flexible pipe?

Would be possible to retap the thread in the female connector?

Has anybody done any thing like this?

Mike.

Usually, if you cut the pipe right up 'tight' to the flare, you can slip another nut on the pipe and flare again, you'll only get one bite at this at best though.

However, if you have or have access to a flaring tool, it's not really a big deal to make a new pipe.

New pipe and new hose would be my choice. I dont mess around with brakes.
