Just replacing springs dampers and knuckles on the rear of my 1994 1275 automatic.

The knuckle has a 12mm spacer on it. Looks like the same shape as a little exhaust cotton reel mount.

I plan on fitting the knuckle with 7mm spacer (Part number GSV1264) normally intended for the front on later cars as the normal knuckle (Part number GSV1118) has no spacer.

Should this be ok?

Will the front knuckle fit in the rear trumpet?

Will the 5mm difference have any consequence?

Alternatively, do I use the GSV1118 and add washers, if so how many washers?

Mike.

None of my Minis ever had spacers between the trumpet and the knuckle.

Might be good to know what you have.

Whatever you do do the same on both sides.

The knuckles were the same front or rear. Some later ones had a spacer due to 13" wheels.

I think the spacer you are describing is in fact part of the stock knuckle joint ball, the 'cotton reel' part of it is where the boot would normally fit.

Fitting the later knuckles will raise it by around 35 mm.

Looking at the knuckle I think you are right Moke Spider.

So the boot should sit in the dip of the cotton reel should it?

How did it manage to get over the flange and sit on the neck of the ball joint because it needs a lot of force to move it?

Mike.
