Well the missus is coming over to mine tommorow, and she refuses to catch the train late at night back to Crawley *sigh*. I don't particularly want to get the train back on my own either lol so I'm going to drive her back.

The thing is, I haven't really driven long distance in my mini before (it is about 40 miles) and so I was wondering do you think it will actually make it?? It will take about 40mins to get there and I dunno if my mini can cope!

The car runs pretty well, apart from the accelerator cable that snapped a few days ago, so what other things do you think I should check before I set off?

cheers in advance guys (and gals ;D )

:(

Just normal stuff - water, oil, tyre pressures, petrol etc.

to be honest 40 miles is nothing, I do that going to work and back everyday in my 89 with no problems. Took her down to St Ives from Winchester a little while ago and she was faultless the whole way doing 90 most of the time !

One thing is to make sure you have a weather shield or other device fitted if its raining. Mine is fine without it on shorter journeys but anything longer and she starts to suffer when its pissing it down ;D

Have some faith in your car :(

We live in the midlands and have done L2B,Beaulie,MITP and lots of others which is a lot futher than 40 miles! Just make sure everything is how it should be and you'll be fine ;D

Nah mate, when Rover made these cars they came with a big old sticker on the windscreen saying:

"Caution, this is a Mini. It is not a real car. Do not expect it to acomplish journeys of longer than 20 miles at a time"

;D

Of course it'll make 40 miles FGS. How sick is your car exactly? If it's not healthy enough to do an 80 mile round trip of an evening then you shouldn't be driving it at all. We're driving to Germany and back in a weeks time and not overly concerned about it.

Sorry if that's a bit snappy, people tend to ask this a lot and it irks me. Mini's are cars mate, they are built to drive.

you'll be fine! Hope to see you on the run to Denmark next year! I drove to Spain and Germany last year, and Poland this year with Germany again next week.

This year, I've done bingley hall, 100 miles, L2B, 500 miles, cornwall, 600 miles, and mitp, 150 miles. I keep it all well maintained and every time something goes wrong I fix it, instead of praying it will go away. my reward is that its never ever let me down. well, only once or twice ;D Like Dan said, cars are meant to be driven.

I drove from Kent to Cornwall and back in my first Mini with a burnt out exhaust valve so effectively it was only running on three cylinders.
Clocked up about 1000 miles.
Just make sure there's enough petrol, oil and water and you'll be fine.

Yeah but this trips ending in Crawley, so try not to stop at all, take some protection and if you see any chavs, scooter and a playground roundabout,, don't be tempted into testing the effects of centrifeugal (sp?) forces on the human body! ;D

You will be fine, but the M23 from London to Crawley is my nemesis, blew up an Alfa engine a few 100 metres from crawley turn, sold it, bought the mini, drove it down, got to the A264 roundabout and oops, no drive! BE WARNED!
