Cleaning Block Face

Can anyone advise a good way to clean block face without getting any residue dwn oil and.waterways.someone suggested stuffing pieces of rag in holes but wondered if.there was a betterway?

Theres not really a better way. Be carefull you don't pack it in too hard and get it stuck. A scraper made from a piece of aluminium (softer than the block) is a good tool, and I finish off with a scouring pad, followed by a wipe over with thinners
