My single carb 1275 has the thermostat housing and sandwich plate/spacer with the outlet for the heater with an inline floating valve.

Question is, does the thermostat go in the recess on the head or in between the upper thermostat housing and the sandwich plate. When I removed it it was in the recess on the head but I was thinking if it was above the sandwich plate/spacer it would warm the heater quicker as the coolant would be flowing before the thermostat opened.

I'm currently using a DSN billet setup that has a recess in the sandwich plate/spacer for the 'stat as did the old cast one.

Haynes doesn't show it in my copy and it's not clear in any of the schematics I've seen.
