Got hold of a block the other day. To me it the cylinders looks linered? I might be wrong since this is the first A-series engine I have had...
On the other hand, looking at the one Bill Sollis rebuilt on the minifilms dvd, that has the same linered look before they sent the block off to be planed and rebored...

Difficult to tell with all that crud

Best way to see liners is from the bottom of the block, it can be seen (most of the time) protruding from the bottom of the bores as an aprox 1.5mm thick cylinder.

Cleen up the surface better, you might be able to see it better.

I will a look from the bottom end when I have dismantled it that far, and then had it all cleaned up!

Could be, but it could also just be the ghost of the gasket. As Sprocket says, look underneath.
