The battery in the boot is a help with weight distribution, although in practice it makes little difference to overall performance. Under the rear seat in a fully sealed box is possibly the best place for the battery if the car is for some sort of competition. Otherwise there are no advantages in moving it from its position in the boot.

Although I'd want a method of protecting the terminals, a battery like this could be mounted in a variety of positions

I currently have the washer bottle that sits on the clutch side of the engine bay and I want to move it so I can install a small battery in its place.

Now my question is apart from the boot area where else can I put it. I was thinking of making up a bracket and attaching it to the rear seat inside the car ?

can I ask about this battery. what will it be doing and why does it have to be in the engine bay?

Silly.... it is to power the washer bottle... :-)

Why do you not want the washer bottle in the boot ?  what are you trying to achieve ?  at the end of the day you could mount it anywhere so long as it complies with construction and use etc....

In the boot the same as on later Minis

Other than the boot.....

lol, I got that but without a clear reason why the boot is out of bounds is not entirely helpful as other areas may also be out of bounds etc etc....

Well as there is now no battery box in the boot and because an alloy tank will be in the centre of the boot then that is why the battery will be moved. There is no back seat extension lip for it to sit under either. I just thought that moving the battery to the inner wing as there would be space available and not in a position for anybody to come into contact with anymore than any other vehicle.

By other than the boot I meant that the boot is an option but what other places were possible

That's the sort of thing I was looking at for a battery

Ok, have you thought about rear pockets ? or under the rear seat (inside the Mini) or you could fit one of those ozzy hats with the drinking straws hanging down.... it would be different if nothing else.

how many seats?

if just two then fit behind them and use a AGM battery. with suitable terminal covers.

Only the fronts. That was my first option to put it on the floor behind the seats out of the way in a box. Was thinking under the bonnet in case of ever having to jump start but for ease will probably put behind seats

No rear pockets now either lol but that would have been a good spot. The ozzy hat sounds like it would definitely different

How about a "rat look" roof rack with 2 jerry cans plumbed in for a years supply of screen wash ?
