Currently have 3.10 in my A+ diff, 12" wheels on Van, am building 1380 with SW5 and all the necessaries for a non-screamer, and am considering dropping revs 10% by moving to 2.95 - I'm in lots-of-room rural France, big distances ............

Any comments from anyone who has tried both ratios much appreciated ;

I get the impression many people are changing to 3.10 rather than away from it and wondered what my chances were of offering to swap ?

Were/are 2.95's common and is it worth advertising ?

I'm using 2.95 in a 530kg kit car with 1330 lump and 10 inch wheels, works well and give relaxed cruising. Using std helical gears give good ratio first gear.

Also using a 3.1 in mk3 mini running 1293 on 10 inch wheels, this is using the slightly closer 'S/GT' helical gearset. I don't think I would want to run higher gearing than this, as typically I try not to spend too much time on motorways.

I think 2.95 was used in 998 minis for a while in the 80's, so it should be possible to find one without too much trouble.
