I brougth a set of arches off minimadjonesy about a week ago but when i went to fit them i realised that they dont go on the standard hole. So do i just go about drilling my own holes??/ Or am i missing something. Also if i drill my own holes where should they be drilled as there is no base to the arch like the standard rover ones so they could go anywhere. ;D

hello

try minispares download page, they may have a template for the arches
i know they have the 1 for the sportspack arches, but i found them not too great to use.....

so i did mine by hand ;D
just take your time 1 hole at a time

Make your holes in the recesses in the arches and the cut out the recess for the seam at the front.
Then fit the arches so that the rear of the fronts are sat on the top of the sill near the a panel, adjust them so that you're happy with how they look (i.e. they are the same distance from the wheel arch all the way round) then mark the holes through the arches on the bodywork.
Do the same for the rear ones but with the leading edge sitting on the sill in front of the rear wheel. once you have marked them up, mask up teh area and drill a small pilot hole. check the pilot holes line up with your holes in the arches and then make them a little larger to allow self tapping screws to be used to hold them in! Then get some Stainless self tappers and fit them! ;D

If you can get hold of some, use riv-nuts instead of self tappers or rivets.

I Agree with GW but knowing how long it took me to find and purchase a decent rivnut tool I'm sure you'll be fine with self tappers! The ruvnut is a great idea but hard to find!

Nut and bolt or pop-rivets better than self tappers? ;D

What, drill the head off? I've never had much trouble... only down side i've seen with them is they can be a bit harsh on weak plastic mounting points and can crack them.

Dont forget once you've drilled the holes to paint them with something like hammerite to protect them, or in 18 months time you'll find the rust gets in and starts to eat the arches off.

Oh, and the old holes for the rear arches need plugging too, welding would be preferable but chemical metal filler painted over will do the job too. If you dont do this then you've got even more places for water to get into your boot.
