Sounds peculiar that it would do that so easy?

If it has a Vapour Lock, just undo the hose going on to the Fuel Bowl of the Carb, crank it over until fuel comes through (if mechanical pump is fitted), reconnect and all should be sweet. I would recommend having a small container there to catch the fuel as it comes out and it would be a good idea to let it cool before doing this.

However, I would tend to think there is an issue with the fuel pump and / or fuel lines.

What Model Mini do you have, is it fitted with a Mechanical or Electric Pump?

If Electric, where is it and are you able to identify what brand / type of pump it is?

Try removing the fuel cap, does it hiss when you remove it?

C - what's the ambient temperature where you're based?

As with above comments, could it be fuel starvation rather than vapour lock?

he fuel cap didnt hiss, but it looks like a solid cap.  Its also french. Sigh.

It was a beautifil day; 2- degrees ish.

I don't know what model mini I have.  Its a 75.  According to my registration, its a "mini rover".  I found out today that it has a 1275 A+ engine, with an electronic ignition (the cap is a 65D), and an HIF38 carb

I pulled the carb, made it all clean and sparkly, put it back on, and now it wont even start without starting fluid.

year has little to do with anything as the powertrain is not original.

what electronic ignition system is it? as it did not have one originally it would have just been points.

I think its a mechanic fuel pump; its in back of the engine.  looks like the one for my mustang.

There's fuel at the carb; it squirts when I disconnect the hose.

I don't think its the fuel cap; gf reminded me that I got gas about a mile after the engine started dying.  Wouldn't that have fixed it?

How do I adjust the HIF38 carb?  I looked on another site, figured out where the mixture screw is, but mine looks covered in shellac or plastic.

Wheres the fuel filter?  My book says how to replace it but doesn't say where it is??

Thanks all!

It starts!
But I dont know why.

I removed the fuel hose going in to the carb to check it again; fuel came out when the engine was turned over.

I filled the little oil well in the carb with 1-20W.  I cant find 20W anywhere.

I replaced that battery.  Went from whir...............whir................whir to whir.whir.whir.start!

It only runs with the choke pulled out, which sucks, because its been warm our today.

I'm going to fix the valve cover leak tonight and take it for a spin.

Thanks all!
C
