The battery on the our 1996 Mini Mayfair MPi discharged as the car hadn't been driven for a while.  Charged the battery up, reconnected, everything working fine.  My son goes off in the car, been about a mile or so and none of the indicators work.  Just get that rapid ticking sound, but no power to the bulbs or the dashboard indicators. The hazard switch makes all the indicators work fine.

Brings the car back.  Later, I went out to check it and apart from a very short couple of seconds of rapid ticking, the indicators then all work fine.

An intermittent electrical fault is the worst - I'll just be worried when he goes out now !  I was thinking about replacing the relay as could that be the source of an intermittent fault ?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The indicators take their power via the hazard switch so it might be bad contacts in the switch. You can pull the switch apart carefully and clean the contacts up. Also worth checking the earth on the indicator relay

Thanks, searching through the net it does appear that the hazard switch is often the problem.

I had a similar problem on mine and cleaning all the internal contacts sorted it out
