Thankyou all for your inputs, it's greatly appreciated!
Also sorry for taking quite so long to get back to you all.
I do really like the idea of a buzzer as another early warning. I'll look into that.
The previous motor failed due to a gradual loss of oil pressure due to swarf eating the oil pump. So just being able to keep an eye on it this time will be the main objective.
I'll also look into a higher rated sensor. Great ideas.
To the right of the steering wheel on the lower rail seems like the place the factory would have put it (as they put some extra switches there later on), although I think it could look good under the heater?

I do like that, but I fear I'd keep kicking it! The way the cars stored means I usually have to climb through the passenger side.
I really like this gauge pod, never seen one before. It will look good where ever you put it. Below the ashtray, as it would compliment the binnacle perfectly as you said. Did you get it from ebay? I was watching it and tempted to bid on it, you got a bargain if it's the same item.
Yeah I won it in the last week. for the (assumed) age and condition I think it was a bargain!
So I've done a few mock-ups based on everyone's thoughts.
I've also seen a pic or two of something similar hanging from the lower dash rail. It was also if I remember where they used to mount aux switches as well.

For gauges it does seem quite a bit out of your eye-line though.
Mounted properly I'm leaning towards this set-up.
