I've been considering an oil pressure gauge after I had an engine starve itself of oil, so when I came across this on ebay and couldn't help myself.

Sold as a NOS Smiths gauge set. Upon receiving it, it really has never been on a car!

It's pretty much a perfect match. Just need to decide where to mount it now. I'm thinking of hanging it from the top dash rail next to the clocks. Thoughts?

Never seen one of those before. I guess under the ash tray centralised would be a good place for it.

That is an awesome looking set of gauges. What about mounting them on the right of the steering column, on the lower dash rail, or is there insufficient space over there?

I've only ever seen them fitted (and I think by dealers) under the lower dash rail, to the right of the steering column.

Can I suggest, given what has happened to you, to fit an Oil Pressure Switch (which I guess you still have now), leave it wired to the buld and also connect a buzzer to that.

A gauge, just like a light is of no value unless you are looking at it, and it's likely for 95% of the time, you won't be looking at the lamp or gauge. With a buzzer, you'll get instant notice of an issue. I have them in most of my cars.

Also fit a higher rated oil pressure switch.  The original comes on at 7-10lbs by which point your engine is ruined.  I got one which comes on around 20lbs from minispares a few years ago but they don't seem to do them anymore.

Edit: Minisport do one: http://www.minisport...bs-1959-96.html it has 2 terminals though.  Mine only has one.

To the right of the steering wheel on the lower rail seems like the place the factory would have put it (as they put some extra switches there later on), although I think it could look good under the heater?

I really like this gauge pod, never seen one before. It will look good where ever you put it. Below the ashtray, as it would compliment the binnacle perfectly as you said. Did you get it from ebay? I was watching it and tempted to bid on it, you got a bargain if it's the same item.

Thankyou all for your inputs, it's greatly appreciated!

Also sorry for taking quite so long to get back to you all.

I do really like the idea of a buzzer as another early warning.  I'll look into that.

The previous motor failed due to a gradual loss of oil pressure due to swarf eating the oil pump. So just being able to keep an eye on it this time will be the main objective.

I'll also look into a higher rated sensor. Great ideas.

I do like that, but I fear I'd keep kicking it! The way the cars stored means I usually have to climb through the passenger side.

Yeah I won it in the last week. for the (assumed) age and condition I think it was a bargain!

So I've done a few mock-ups based on everyone's thoughts.

I've also seen a pic or two of something similar hanging from the lower dash rail. It was also if I remember where they used to mount aux switches as well.

For gauges it does seem quite a bit out of your eye-line though.

Mounted properly I'm leaning towards this set-up.

That third picture is definitely the one to go for. Looks perfect and the gauges are right in front of you.

Made a mounting coming off the centre dash rail stud and supported it from the front. Seems to fit nicely and no drilling required. Just need to wire and plumb it in now.

If anyone was wondering what I did with this. I finally finished up the bracket, wiring, and plumbing today.

Works beautifully and the backlighting mimics the factory clocks perfectly.

Just need to "alter" a dash trim now to fit behind it. Not looking forward to that!

What a perfect set of gauges for a GT, it looks so right that it could be factory designed. Going to keep my eye out for one of these now.

Did the original ebay listing state they had a few of these?
