Hi Guys,

so I have a 1991 rover mini city (998cc) and took the car out for a drive on Saturday and the car was making a hissing sound when I was driving. I have seen that the hose coming from the engine block to the radiator fan seems to be cracked, do we think that this could be why the car is hissing at me.

if so, do you guys know a reliable place where I can find one on the web?

thanks

It's a fair bet. You could carefully run some soapy water over the pipe and bring the engine up to temperature to see if this is where the leak is. Just be careful because if that is the leak it'll be basically boiling water coming out. So don't be sticking your hand or face too close to it.

I doubt it would be the hose but you should still change it if you have noticed cracks.

What would you suggest the problem might be. Its a constant hissing sound, which has suddenly started sounding which is the strange thing

Are you losing water? Happened to me, was a pinhole leak in the bypass hose. Look for steam under tje bonnet when the engine is hot.

So it isn't hissing when it's ticking over?

Its hissing once the engine has turned over and persists until the car is shut off

As above check the integrity of your air filter.

other than that ? check your water level to ensure you are not losing water, I had the top of a radiator come off some years ago, that caused a hissing noise but it was plainly obvious as soon as I lifted the bonnet I had a reasonable sized cloud erupt in front of me.
