thats the heater control, in for hot and out for cold on the earlier engines, it closes a valve on the head! ;D

It's how you light the fire for the heater...

that's the hot and cold switch if you pull it you will stop the water going into the heater matrix and then you will get cold air coming through instead of hot air (that's if there not seized or broke)

Now see that is strange because if I pull mine out (pnar pnar ;D ) it lets the nice hot water through. Mind you I have got an inline valve, so I pose it could be the wrong way round!?!

That's right. Head mounted valve - push for heat. Inline valve - pull for heat.

Thanks for clearing up its the knob that cranks the gas burner up.

Think im dropping the front subby tomorrow. All I can think of that i need to disconnect is;
fuel line,
choke cable,
throttle cable,
clutch,
heater tap on the head (or take logs off the fire)
battery lead,
gear selector.

Then all 6 subby bolts.

What have I missed?

brake pipes and shock absorbers, steering arm (trackrod) ball joints would be a good idea too.....

edit - as well as the necessary electrical connections

Front hoses are already off.

Shock absorbers and track rod ends.. good point.

Umm, the exhaust!
Earth lead,
Wiring harness,
Heater hoses,
Engine steadies,
Brake lines (just the hoses off at the moment? Not good enough, the solid lines run from the body to the subframe at the bulkhead),
Removing the carb helps a lot,
Shocks,
Steering arms.

I think that's about it.
