I'd like to temporarily remove the offside rear subframe back mount.

It partly covers the rear valance closing panel which has corrosion that I would like to tackle.

I currently have the backend of the car up on axle stands to refurbish the offside radius arm so access in the wheelarch is good.

Do I need to take any further steps to add support?

When I remove the rear offside mount as the subframe is still mounted on the other 3 mounts it should just rest on the boot floor is that correct?

Could anybody tell me the size the 2 nuts/bolts holding the trunnion to the boot floor and the size of the big nut holding the bush to the trunnion?

Regards

Mike.

Nuts and bolts should be half inch. The bigger bolt I couldn't say sorry. If you plan on putting it back down on its wheels I would put something between the subby and the boot floor piece of timber or something just to prevent any damage but don't think it would be a huge issue.
If it were me think I would just have the whole rear end up with a long beam accross the floor in 2 axle stands then it shouldn't matter at all.

Thanks for your reply dyshipfakta

I won't lower the car back on its wheels until I have finished refurbishing the radius arm.

I plan on repairing the rust and replacing the subframe mount before then.

So I don't need to add any extra support before removing the subframe mount?

no I'm sure it will be fine particularly if the radius arm is out anyway as that is most of the weight of the subby anyway.

The other 3 mount points will take the weight fine up in the air.  If you were to undo another mount, then you will need support.

The bolts are 1 inch and 2&1/2 inch with 5/16 thread, there should be no metric in there!

Thanks Richmond,

Thanks for the info.

I've removed the mount without any problem.

I've cleaned up the rear valance closing panel and painted it in Electrox. Just waiting for it to dry out properly then will Gravitex it.

Gravitex is upol stone chip paint it's good stuff. Electrox is a rust conversion product. Meant to be better then the old fashioned acid stuff
