Is there a way I can test the auxiliary fan in the wheel arch to see if it works? I've never seen or heard it working even though I've been running pretty hot sometimes in the past.

Pull the two spade connectors off the switch on the bottom of the rad and join together with paper clip, if working fan will come on. if not start checking fuses and relay.
