Hi all,
Just noticed today when I pulled up after driving home, that if I picked the revs up from idles there was a squeaking / chirping sound. I thought it must be the alternator drive line, but then after popping the bonnet realised it was from the clutch end. It is there with the clutch in or out. Also it isn't there at idle, but as soon as you lift the revs even a little it is there. After about a minute idling it goes away, but if I nip back out and drive it along the road and back, it returns and stays for about a minute again.
Could this be a bearing in the transfer gears, eg idler bearing? I was swithering last year about checking them as I have a little bit of a rattle when the oil is hot (none when cold). Now wondering if this is confirming that there is an issue. Can't think what the squeak would be - it is like a chirp about 2 per second, then as the engine speed increases it increases, but not linearly, and it comes and goes. Only thing I can picture is the bearing outer spinning in the housing (yikes!) or a roller binding briefly and making the chirp.
I assume it can't be clutch release bearing as it is happens with clutch in or out?
Appreciate your opinions.
