Hi,

During a recent oil change on my Mk1 Cooper I notice the gearbox number is 22G333, Is this MK1 Cooper S or Mk1 Cooper ?

Were any 333 boxes fitted to the cooper or specifically cooper 's' ?

I know this is a 3 syncro box but is the 22G333 any different ?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

The 333 casing was mainly fitted to the 1275 S although a few 970's had it.

If you look on the casing, above the 333 there might be an X or Y and/or there might be a number stamped on the front of the casing on the small flat area about 6" to the left of the casting number.

Thanks for the help,

There does not seam to be stamps to the left but the stamps I can see behind the oil filter are :

      Y

    S14

22G333

MOWOG

In this arrangement.

The output shafts are U-Joint type does this mean these will be cooper S ?

They are all UJ type as this just means universal joint or flexible if you like, they should be Hardy Spicers on this box, easy to tell the difference, HS joints where often called crucifix joints because of the cross in the middle, ie like this......

A 333 can be fitted with a rubber coupling or Hardy Spicer diff. It depends on the age.

Pre 66 were rubber couplins. When twin tanks became compulsory they added the Hardys.
