Hi!

I am revisiting some of the restoration work my Dad and I (plus some professionals -   :whistling: ) did on our Wolseley Hornet (aka Willy) back in the late 80s....somewhat triggered by the desire to get a rebuilt12G295 head fitted along with a SW5-07 cam.

Back in 2014 Willy was measured with 44 horses - after some tuning on the dyno at Southam Mini centre.  Modifications - minispares inlet and maniflow exhaust manifolds, RC40, 1.5" carb and K&N filter.

At the moment the engine is out and the gearbox separated.  Block, flywheel and crank have been sent to Rob Walker engineering for grinding / lightening / balancing and the addition of flat top pistons.  Gearbox is off to Tim Bradley Motor services to have a rebuild - new baulk rings and bearings.....2nd and 3rd syncro lasted 100 miles on previous rebuild.  Hoping the uprated baulk rings will see this problem gone for some time.

For an amateur mechanic digital photos and the internet make this job so much easier.

The Hornet was our first and last major project :ohno: ....this time it is so much easier to get the correct information as I progress through the stripdown.

Hopefully the numerous oil leaks will be reduced or eliminated following the rebuild.

Fun so far:

Problems encountered so far.....

Crank pulley would not pull off.....had to be ground down....not sure why but the woodruff key had was almost worn/chewed to the point of being useless but in a way to stop pulley from coming off.
Oil pump had released half a spring washer - answers what was on the end of the drain plug....weird this was only evident now as car has had plenty of oil changes in the meantime.
One piston had a broken ring.

In the meantime, thank you to the kind souls who keep this forum full of useful information.

Thank you

Andy
