Hi,

I've just fitted a new throttle cable as the old one frayed and nearly killed me the other day!!! On fitting it, where the cable runs through the bulkhead bush, the bush has come loose and keeps falling out. Has anyone else had this problem and got round it, if so how please??

Many thanks

Paul

Had the same problem. Used one of these (can't recall the specific size I used). As a bonus you get built in adjustment (but probably easier to adjust at the carb end admititadly!).

The Halfords part suggested by the General should work well.  I was going to suggest similar items available from bicycle supply and repair firms.

Many thanks for your help, that looks like a great suggestion, I'm going to do that.

Thank you.  :highfive:

The next time I get the Mini out I'll take a picture of the bush. It sits actually in the bulkhead (inside the car) where the cable goes through.

+1 on the bike parts.  In addition to the adjuster i use the 90deg metal tube from a "V" brake on the engine side of the bulkhead, as i find this makes a nice smooth transition upwards, as i have found the outers tend to rub here.

Well, where mine was loose it looked like a bush, so yeah it could've been how you've described it??

Did yours have anything as part of the bulkhead or had yours come adrift from the bulkhead ?

Mine had come adrift and was on the cable, once I took the cable out there was just a round hole in the bulkhead.

Here is a picture of what should be there, the tube is for your cable and I guess what you are saying has fallen off ?  the question is how ?  is it corroded ?

Yeah! that's the one!! I think it's just got old and shook loose over the years and possible a little corrosion added (although it was still a perfect circle in the bulkhead). To me it looked as if it had shook loose and worn. I'm going for the cycle part as that can be tightened from the engine side and will do the same job, sounds like a few people have suffered this too.
