Good afternoon all,
I am new to pickup ownership and have "a bit" of a project on my hands. Whilst paintwork is a long way off I am thinking about colours. The pickup I have is a 1978 in Brooklands Green (well the bits that aren't brown and see through). Not a fan of the green so thinking of Damask Red which fits the year but does anyone know if it was a standard colour option on pickups/vans rather than just saloons/estates. I know, should I change from the original colour at all loosing originality???
Any info will be appreciated. Thanks. Jemmo.

Depends what your trying to do if your planing to sell it then original. Seem to be getting higher prices than modified one even though there still pricey being a pickup.

An 'all as original' pick properly restored & rust free is a valuable thing these days and will become more so.

I wish I still had my 1982 Pick-Up which was original in dark blue with only a white roof as non-standard.

The only mod I would have done had I been keeping it would have been to make the grill removable by using a very thin cutter to cut the grill portion away from the front panel, then make up some flat brackets with Riv-Nuts and bolt the grill part on with countersunk screws. It would have helped with oil changes and servicing generally without looking modified. 4 x 2BA screws would be enough and they could be hidden behind a pair of period Lucas 5" spotlights.

Thanks kezzkitkat and cooperman. You are both spot on with my thinking about originality. It is green now, red under that and green again under that which looks like the original.
Like the idea of the screw in front panel. Have been on the same train of thought. Do you know if the pick up pressed front panel grille, eg Mini Spares 14A6480G, or similar from say M Machine, would sit on a saloon front panel in the same way the chrome grille does? Had also thought of riv nuts with colour coded pan head screws.

For me it always spoils vans and pick-ups when a chrome grille is fitted, but making the pressed grille removable is a good idea so long as it is done carefully.
The value of as-original pick-ups is increasing more quickly than saloons now.
