1275 Sprite Electric Fan Can It Be Removed?

Hi I've bought a 1994 mini sprite 1275, I was just wondering if I could do away with electric fan and just run it with the engine fan or would it cause over heating issues?

You would probably be fine up until you get stuck in traffic on a hot summer day.. that's when an electric fan really helps. I have a 94 SPi which is supposed to have an electric fan but it hasn't been there since I bought the car. Everyday driving it's fine but when I did the L2B run last year the temperature did start creeping up when queueing in the sun! Why are you thinking of removing it?

As above, if your cooling system is in good working order and with the correct ratio of anti freeze in your coolant, then you'll probably get away with it. I run a 1275 cooper engine in my 85 Mayfair with no auxiliary fan and the connectors are forever falling off the auxiliary fan switch on my 93 Sprite, so it's electric fan doesn't actually work a lot of the time anyway. That said, I still wouldn't recommend it. When it is actually connected, the auxiliary fan on my Sprite does a good job of keeping things cool when stuck in traffic, particularly on a hot summers day. Without it you'll soon find yourself sat there stationary in the baking heat, with the heater on full blast as you attempt to disperse some of the engine heat by using the heater matrix as a secondary rad....... & trust me, being stuck in traffic, on a hot day, in a small metal glazed box with the heater on full blast isn't particularly pleasant!   >_<

Agreed!  And actually, when this happened to me last year, I found that there was a point as the engine started to get to the fan cut on temperature, that the heater blew almost cold!  Then as the engine cooled down and we were moving, it got hotter again. I surmised this was some sort of effect of the temperature differential between the hot and 'cold' coolant being almost the same temperature (it was very still and warm outside) that affected the flow through the heater pipes. Either that or my cooling system is gubbed!

 

Keep it in. It's doing you no harm and might end up doing you some good!
